At Bluewater, Responsible Investment enhances our returns-focussed approach, embedding sustainability performance to manage risk, generate operational improvements, and drive long-term value creation across our portfolio companies and the communities they serve.
Our responsible investment approach
Our approach aligns with the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), to which we have been a signatory since 2020. We incorporate sustainability considerations into investment decision-making alongside financial and strategic factors to support long-term value creation, with a strong focus on engagement and post-investment stewardship to drive value and build better businesses.
- Active ownership
We play an active role in driving improvements across our portfolio companies through senior-level oversight and Board-level accountability. Each company nominates a Board representative responsible for tracking progress against key sustainability objectives set by Bluewater and the Portfolio Management Team.
- Measuring progress
We recognise that robust data underpins our ability to track performance and identify areas for improvement. In 2022, Bluewater partnered with a third-party ESG data reporting & benchmarking service provider to enable consistent, independently verified and benchmarked data collection across our portfolio, aligned with multiple global standards and regulations.
Since the first reporting cycle, we have seen consistent improvements and an increase in impactful initiatives across our portfolio companies, reflecting the commitment to their sustainability programmes and a growing emphasis on strengthening long-term resilience across the portfolio.
- EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation
Responsible investment will continue to underpin our investment approach and play a key role in driving long-term performance.
We intend for Fund III to be classified as an Article 8 fund under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), enabling us to demonstrate how our investments promote sustainability-related characteristics.

GHG Emissions

Responsible Investment Committee
The Responsible Investment Committee at Bluewater maintains oversight and accountability of our responsible investment strategy and its implementation across the firm. It sets priorities, supports integration across the investment process, and guides engagement with portfolio companies, helping to drive consistent progress, strong governance and long-term value creation.
